Kurti: Ready to discuss the election date

Prime Minister of Kosova, Albin Kurti, has expressed readiness for early elections but emphasized the need for broader consensus with opposition parties on the dissolution of the Assembly.
After a meeting with the chairman of the Kosovan Democratic Party leader, Memli Krasniqi, Albin Kurti mentioned possibilities for early spring, late spring, or autumn elections. However, he added that it is necessary for all parliamentary parties to agree on the election date.
“We need to discuss with all political entities and see which date we mostly agree on. I would agree to such a thing… For the dissolution of the Assembly, 80 votes are needed, and the Self-Determination Movement does not have them. At the same time, I would not prefer the Assembly to be dissolved by two or three parties. Why not all of us together? It is in the nature of the opposition to demand elections, while I am in the last year of my mandate, my government in this mandate cannot last more than a few months. For me, it is not crucial whether I govern for 10 months, eight, or three months in this mandate. But it is important to have as broad a consensus as possible for the election date,” said Kurti.
Furthermore, Albin Kurti announced that he will insist on meeting with the chairman of the Democratic League (LDK), Lumir Abdixhiku, and the chairman of the Alliance for the Future (AAK), Ramush Haradinaj, despite their refusal to meet.
Speaking about relations with the US, Albin Kurti stated that they do not depend on who is in power, Democrats or Republicans, as Americans are Kosova’s irreplaceable ally and partner.
Opposition leader Memli Krasniqi is the only one who has accepted the invitation for a meeting with Prime Minister Albin Kurti, while the chairman of the LDK, Lumir Abdixhiku, and the chairman of the AAK, Ramush Haradinaj, have refused the invitation, arguing that discussions on the legislative agenda fall within the domain of the Assembly.
