Lajcak Announces New Plan for Kosova-Serbia Dialogue One Day Before Mandate Ends

Miroslav Lajcak, the EU’s Special Representative for the Kosova-Serbia dialogue, revealed a new plan for dialogue between the two countries just one day before the end of his mandate.

Lajcak shared that the EU is preparing a new proposal, which will be presented to both Kosova and Serbia after Kosova’s parliamentary elections on February 9. However, he did not disclose any specifics about the proposal’s contents.

The new proposal will be delivered to both parties by Kaja Kallas, the newly appointed European High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, along with Lajcak’s successor, Peter Sorensen.

“We are preparing for the EU to start high-level discussions after the elections in Kosova. Kaja Kallas has made it clear that she will be directly involved and intends to lead the process. A stance and proposal from the EU are being prepared for both parties. I cannot share further details at this point. My successor, Peter Sorensen, a seasoned diplomat with a deep understanding of the Balkans, will assist Kaja Kallas in this effort,” Lajcak said.

Lajcak’s mandate concludes on January 31, while Peter Sorensen will officially take over as the EU’s Special Representative for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue on February 1.
