Lajcak in Kosova: EU’s Clear Stance on Ibër Bridge, Upcoming Dialogue with Serbia

Kosova and Serbia are scheduled to meet soon to advance dialogue and reach a good-neighborly agreement between them.

After meeting with Prishtina’s chief negotiator, EU envoy Miroslav Lajcak shared that various topics were discussed, including the recent tensions over the opening of the Ibër Bridge for transportation. The EU, along with the U.S., France, the UK, and Germany, have criticized Kosova for uncoordinated actions in the Serb-majority north.

“The EU’s position is well known. The [Ibër] Bridge must be opened, but in close cooperation with Kosova’s international partners,” Lajcak stated.

He further emphasized the need for both parties to uphold previous agreements aimed at improving state relations between Kosova and Serbia. Belgrade remains firm in its refusal to recognize Kosova, despite the expectation that this will be the outcome of the Ohrid Agreement from March 2023.

“The Ohrid Agreement is legally binding. Neither side has withdrawn from it. We are working with Kosova and Serbia to accelerate the process. A meeting date has been set, but I prefer not to disclose it,” Lajcak added.
