Lajçak starts lobbying in the EU states that have not recognized Kosovo

The Special Representative of the European Union for the Kosovo-Serbia dialogue, Miroslav Lajçak, has started a series of meetings with countries that have not recognized Kosovo’s independence.

Through his Twitter account, he announced that he has met with high officials of Spain, Slovakia and Cyprus. With the representative of the Government of Spain, Lajçak said that he discussed the issue of dialogue and the acceleration of the process.

“I met with Joss Manuel Albares to update him on the dialogue. We need rapid progress towards the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia at this critical moment. Grateful for Spain’s strong support to EU efforts,” he said.

Lajcak also announced that he had a conversation with the Foreign Minister of Slovakia, Rastislav Kacer.

“I informed him about my last visit and our efforts to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia. I appreciate the strong support for the future of the region”, writes the EU emissary.

Lajcak also had a meeting with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Ioannis Kasoulides.

“I welcome the warm, friendly and open discussion with the Foreign Minister of Cyprus, Ioannis Kasoulides. It was very useful to discuss the latest in the facilitated dialogue and exchange our views,” he writes.

This initiative of the EU emissary came after the recent meetings of senior Western officials with Prime Minister Albin Kurti in Prishtina and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic in Belgrade. All this for reaching an agreement between the two countries, after the proposal of the Franco-German plan. It should be noted that from the countries of the Western Balkans, Kosovo is not yet recognized by Serbia, which continues to consider it part of itself with the Constitution, nor Bosnia and Herzegovina.

From the countries of the European Union, Kosovo does not have the recognition of Greece, Romania, Spain, Slovakia and Cyprus. This, despite the fact that the International Court of Justice found in 2010 that Kosovo’s independence does not conflict with international law.
