LDK Rejects Government Coalition with Albin Kurti, Abdixhiku Proposes Transitional Government

Lumir Abdixhiku, leader of the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), has rejected Albin Kurti’s offer for a coalition with the Self-Determination Movement (Vetëvendosje), proposing instead the formation of a transitional government that includes all Albanian political parties.
In a media statement, Abdixhiku explained that after internal consultations, LDK concluded that a coalition with Vetëvendosje was “impossible.” He cited the lack of trust and the concerns about national security alliances, democracy, freedom of expression, and the deep political polarization in the country as key reasons for rejecting the coalition.
To resolve the ongoing political deadlock, Abdixhiku called on all parliamentary parties to meet and form a transitional government, which would remain in place until the election of a new president.
Abdixhiku stressed that this proposal requires political responsibility, unity, and a high level of national awareness. He emphasized the importance of creating a consultative process with all political parties to establish a national transitional government with a fixed term until a new president is elected.
Kosovo’s parliament has been unable to form the ninth parliamentary composition following the February elections, with the process stalling over the election of the parliament speaker. Vetëvendosje’s candidate, Albulena Haxhiu, failed to secure the required votes, and other parties have rejected her candidacy, viewing her as a divisive figure.
