Lin Village Joins UNESCO World Heritage in Albania

Lin village has joined Albania’s UNESCO World Heritage zone. Authorities declared it an “Urban Architectural Ensemble.”
Prime Minister Edi Rama announced the news and shared images of Lin. The village sits on Lake Ohrid, 20 kilometers from Pogradec.
“Lin has just been declared an Urban Architectural Ensemble,” Rama said.
Lin attracts visitors for its scenic views and close connection between people, tradition, and nature. Recent excavations show it is one of Europe’s earliest pile-dwelling settlements. Tourists from abroad are increasingly visiting.
The hill above the village holds the ruins of a Paleochristian basilica, one of Lin’s most treasured sites.
UNESCO recognition highlights Lin’s historical, architectural, and natural value. The village blends traditional streets, communal life, and vernacular homes built with local materials.
Lin keeps its original structure with narrow cobbled streets. Its houses use local techniques and adapt perfectly to the climate and environment.
