The EU ambassador in Tirana, Luigi Soreca, says that the Western Balkans are in the European Union. Speaking at the parliamentary conference on the “Role of Parliament in the Berlin Process”, Soreca said that due to the war in Ukraine, the geopolitical situation has changed and the need for EU enlargement has never been greater than now.

“In the chain of meetings we have organized for the Berlin Process, this meeting has a special importance for us. It is very important that the ministers and heads of state meet, but also the members of the regional parliaments meet and show their unity and come out with joint statements with the same voice.

The Balkans are part of the EU, and the geopolitical changes with the way Russia sees Ukraine have all focused minds on Brussels. It has increased attention, it has never been greater than now for the enlargement of the EU. It is a high strategic issue for security in the EU. We hope to prepare for the Western Balkan Summit that will take place in Brussels in mid-December. As I said, in this context the Berlin process plays an important role because it is a platform for the region to work more on reforms, integration projects, we expect the summit on Monday to achieve the most practical result in some areas, transport, agenda digital, transport, energy and the common market. Albania deserves credit as one of the first countries to take the lead”, said Soreca.
