Minister of Defense, Pirro Vengu, expressed his heartfelt condolences today following the death of Major General Kostaq Karoli.

“The passing of Major General (R) Kostaq Karoli is a tremendous loss for the Armed Forces and for Albania,” Vengu wrote in a social media post.

Vengu highlighted that Major General Karoli was a “man of national importance,” dedicating his life to his homeland, national security, and the highest values of Albanian society.

“My deepest condolences to the family, for this rare individual, devoted husband, father, friend, and exemplary soldier. Farewell, Major General Kostaq Karoli!” said Minister Vengu.

Major General Kostaq Karoli passed away at the age of 79.

A distinguished figure in the Albanian Armed Forces, Karoli served as the Chief of the General Staff of the Albanian Army from 1991 to 1992, holding several other vital positions throughout his career. He was awarded numerous honors, titles, and medals for his outstanding service.

General Karoli dedicated decades to safeguarding the country’s sovereignty. In 2013, he was awarded the “Certificate of Appreciation” for his exceptional commitment and contributions to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Albania.

Honored with a doctoral degree and the title of “Professor,” Kostaq Karoli was also the author of two books and co-author of numerous academic texts, methodologies, and articles.

General Kostaq Karoli will always be remembered as an exceptional and noble man who devoted his life and career to Albania.
