Gramshi’s fifes are declared a national treasure.

The news was announced by the Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti, as she wrote on social networks, that “for the magical sound, for the mastery of the realization and the tradition that is inherited from generation to generation, Gramsci’s songs are declared a national treasure”.

Margariti said that, “The National Council of Intangible Cultural Heritage examined the request of the National Center of Traditional Activities, and decided to declare “Gramshi’s Fifes” “National Treasure of Intangible Cultural Heritage”.

Gramshi’s fife is one of the most attractive and ancient instruments in the golden fund of Albanian musical heritage, as well as one of the most important documents of Albanian polyphonic instrumental music.

This instrument is considered an important part of traditional Albanian musical culture and represents one of the earliest forms of instrumental polyphony.
