Margariti: Old dilapidated houses in Gjirokastra to be restored

Through a government initiative, the old dilapidated houses in Gjirokastra will be restored. This aims to preserve cultural heritage, improve the image of cities and create conditions for sustainable economic development.
The Minister of Culture, Elva Margariti stressed that this initiative would have been difficult before, due to the model that was proposed. But, according to her, it is easier now, seeing the revitalization of the historical centers such as the bazaar of Korça, Vlora and Qafa e Pazarit shows .
“This is a continuation of a good and healthy journey, which has had a lot of controversy on your part and by professionals in the field on what would be the revitalization. But we are convinced in this way thanks to the trust that has been created between the government and the private sector”, stressed the Minister of Culture.
Over the years dozens of cultural monuments have finally disappeared from the list of cultural heritage as a result of depreciation.
The economic inability of Gjirokastra families to maintain the old houses of considerable size and the high number of owners who have failed to find the common ground,t has led these historical values to ruin,” said Margariti.
