Marubi Museum to Showcase Original Gjon Mili Collection in Major Retrospective

The Marubi National Museum of Photography will open the exhibition “Gjon Mili: Retrospective” on June 12, presenting for the first time an original collection of works by Albanian-American photographer Gjon Mili.
The exhibition highlights Mili’s pioneering role in high-speed photography and his collaborations with major 20th-century artists, including Pablo Picasso. It also features his work with leading Hollywood figures and international cultural icons.
Mili was born in Korçë and emigrated to the United States in 1923, where he later studied electrical engineering at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His scientific training shaped his innovative approach to photography, especially in the use of light and motion.
The museum is presenting the exhibition as a significant cultural moment, bringing Mili’s work back to Albania and restoring his legacy within national artistic memory.
Furthermore, the retrospective has been curated by Howard Greenberg and is supported by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Sports.
