Meeting of Kurti and Vucic in Brussels/ Lajcak: Kosovo and Serbia should accept the EU plan

The EU demands that Serbia and Kosovo accept the Franco-German plan for the normalization of relations between them during the meeting on February 27 in Brussels. This was made clear by the special envoy of the European Union for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue, Miroslav Lajcak, who said that the EU plan is binding on both sides and that this is not a temporary agreement.

“The plan, which I believe we will be accepted on Monday, will become binding for both parties. It is not a temporary arrangement. After it, the process of all-round normalization of relations will continue, which must end with the signing of a comprehensive agreement before the entry of Serbia and Kosovo into the European Union”, said Lajcak.

Together with Lajcak, the EU High Representative, Josep Borrell will hold separate meetings with the leaders, followed by a joint meeting. The focus of the meeting will be the EU proposal for the normalization of relations between Kosovo and Serbia, while the sessions will follow a press conference led by Borrell.

Lajcak said that the EU expects “that they officially and publicly declare that they accept the plan,” reports Euractiv.

The EU demands that Kosovo and Serbia resolve the ongoing historical disputes between them in order to progress on their path to EU membership.
