Meloni: The Court of Cassation Ruled in Our Favor, Migrant Centers in Albania Are Ready

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni stated today during her annual press conference that the Court of Cassation has sided with the government, affirming that it is the government’s responsibility to establish safe spaces for migrants.
“The decisions of the Court of Cassation confirm that the government is right, as they state that it is the government’s role to create secure locations,” Meloni said.
She added, “The centers in Albania are ready to be operational.”
Meloni also highlighted the decrease in migrant arrivals, noting, “Last year, landings were reduced by 60%, and in recent years, they have nearly disappeared. But as far as we are concerned, the centers are fully prepared to function.”
On the Court of Cassation’s ruling, Meloni argued, “As a result, judges cannot ignore the systematic ban on migrants from those countries, but they can address specific cases.”
“This is completely different from what the magistrates in Rome are doing, as they should not intervene in individual matters,” she explained.
The European Court of Justice is set to rule in February on the issue of safe countries.
“Italy has presented its case. From discussions with our European partners, I know that the majority will support Italy’s position before the court. Our arguments align with the immigration pact,” Meloni concluded.
