Minister of Economy, Culture, and Innovation Blendi Gonxhja expressed condolences today for the death of actor Zija Grapshi.

Grapshi, known as “the grandfather of fairy tales,” died yesterday at the age of 94.

“He was a beloved figure of the stage, a ‘Merited Artist’ who left a valuable legacy in dubbing. He gave voice to many animated films and radio fairy tales. His contribution remains a precious part of our cultural heritage. Rest in peace, master,” Gonxhja wrote on social media.

Grapshi performed in more than 160 puppet theatre productions. He often played leading roles. He became popular with children through characters such as Shvejk (1957), Ivan the Great (1959), and Baba Viti (1987).

He achieved his greatest success at the Puppet Theatre of Tirana, where he dedicated most of his career.

His work in children’s theatre and his commitment to puppetry made him a respected and admired figure in the Albanian artistic community.
