Ministerial/ Hasani welcomes counterparts from the EU and WB. German minister: To speed up the European integration of the region

Albanian Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Igli Hasani has received at the Palace of Brigades the counterparts from the European Union and the Western Balkans for the Ministerial that will take place within the framework of the Berlin Process.

Also present at this Ministerial are the EC Enlargement Commissioner and the EEAS Representative.

The EU axis, such as Germany and France, are the direct monitors of this pre-summit, as the great Summit of the Berlin Process will be held on October 16.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Germany, Annalena Baerbock, in a statement to the media from the Palace of Brigades at the start of the Ministerial of ministers of foreign affairs of the Western Balkans and the European Union, commented on the issues related to illegal migration, the situation of tensions between Kosova and Serbia and the EU integration of the region.

Regarding the latter, the German minister said that the integration process of the Western Balkans in the European Union needs to speed up.

“It is the position of the German government and the European Union to speed up the integration of the Western Balkans into the EU. There has rightly been a fatigue in recent years from the young people who have chosen the path to Europe. Even we as the German government in these years have repeated that through the Berlin Process we must provide a solution to this. This will be achieved with the policy of free movement, to live and work where they want”, she said.

Security in the region was another point on which the German minister stopped during her communication to the media.

Baerbock said that it is in the interest of all countries that citizens live safely and freely.

“The idea is to work together with the region within the framework of the [Berlin] Process, and in this regard we have noticed many reforms carried out over the recent years. While during the last days and weeks we have had the issue of security in focus, which would be in the interest of all the countries of the region, for the people to live safely, freely and in friendship with each other,” added the minister.

Refering to the tensions in the north of Kosova, Baerbock expressed concern over the attack in Basnjka, as she added that “therefore, the Berlin Process is an initiative that directly appeals that the road to the EU should be carried out together, respecting territorial integrity”.
