Ministry of Agriculture Certifies Four New Traditional Albanian Products

The Kukës Flija is another traditional Albanian product. It is now moving toward registration as a protected brand. It has passed compliance tests for geographical indication, origin, and tradition. Soon, it may receive the national logo and be marketed as a Traditional Specialty Guaranteed (TSG).
Agriculture experts and field donors held a special event about Flija. They gathered at a guesthouse in Kukës to promote rural tourism and local heritage.
Five local women prepared traditional Flija. Guests tasted it as the first step toward its official TSG registration.
Members of the Quality Schemes Commission also attended. They worked to select the most authentic version of the dish.
Promoting and certifying authentic Albanian products is key to rural tourism development.
So far, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development has certified four traditional products with the TSG label:
- Ziem Cheese (Veleçik, Shkodër)
- Bedunicë Honey (Përmet)
- Goat Cheese (Bjeshkët e Runjës)
- Mishavinë Cheese (Kelmend)
These products add value to Albania’s heritage, from north to south.
