Mio’s house-museum opened after restoration

The house-museum of the painter Vangjush Mio is reopened in Korça, after restoration. The news was announced by the Minister of Culture, stating that it is added is another attraction for tourists visiting Korça.

“After the completion of the roof restoration, the house-museum of the painter Vangjush Mio, in Korça will open its doors to visitors, who every day more and more prefer to stop in the city of serenades”, – said Margariti.

This house has been declared a house-museum thanks to the ethnographic values it carries and for the fact that one of the most prominent Albanian painters was born there. The apartment-museum of the People’s Painter, Vangjush Mio is one of the most visited in the city of Korça. During his 40-year career, Mio realized over 400 drawings and 130 paintings.

About 60 works of the master, take place in the collection of the National Gallery of Arts in Tirana. The other works, under the care of daughter Rozeta, are exhibited in the house-museum. Mio is one of the most important painters among the Albanian realist artists of the 20th century. He has rightly been called “the poet of the Albanian landscape”.

Vangjush Mios’s work contributed to the education of new generations of artists in the conditions of wild cultural isolation in which they found themselves, because it belonged to an art school outside the framework of socialist realism.

The painter has participated in many fine arts exhibitions organized both in Albania and abroad. We can remember: Italy, Romania, China, at the Alexandria Biennale, Greece, Egypt, Turkey, Russia and the former Yugoslavia. His works are counted in 500 paintings, 200 drawings and 80 sketches, which are kept in his house Museum “Vangjush Mio” in Korca.

Critics consider him as the painter who took the first step of Albanian painting towards modern concepts, freeing him from static and sometimes amateur forms of Renaissance art.
