Mit’hat Frashëri is commemorated

Mit’hat Frashëri (also known as Lumo Skëndo and Mali Kokojka), was born on March 25, 1880 in Ioannina.

After his family settled in Istanbul and after the death of his father, Abdyl Frashëri, in 1892. His education was taken care of by Naim and Sami Frashëri, who also became his teachers.

In 1908, he started publishing the newspaper “Liria” in Selanik (Greece] and then in 1909, the magazine “Diturija”. Mit’hat Frashëri participated in the (Alphabet) Congress of Manastir in November 1908, where he was elected chairman and appointed to the Alphabet Commission. He participated in the National Assembly of Vlora on November 28, 1912 and signed the Declaration of Independence. He was minister for World Affairs in the first Albanian government after Independence, led by Ismail Qemali. In 1920, he was appointed head of the Albanian delegation at the Paris Peace Conference.

In January 1923, he was ambassador of Albania to Greece, a position he held until 1926.

He had a very rich library of his own, where the number of books reached up to 18,000 pieces. Mit’hat Frashëri wrote the biography of Naim Frashëri in 1901. He has published novelettes ‘Hi dhe Shpuzë”/Ashes and Soot/, “Plagët Tona” /Our Wounds/ and others.

Mit’hat Frashëri also published several works in French: “L’affaire de l’Epire (1915), “La population de l’Epire” (1915), “Les Albanais chez eux et a la l’Etranger” (1919), etc,. During the Second World War, he was the leader of the Organization of the Balli Kombëtar.

Mit’hat Frashëri died in October 1949, during a trip to New York.
