The Prime Minister of Montenegro, Dritan Abazovic has distributed today on social networks some important new information on the bridge that will be built over Buna and that will connect Albania with Montenegro in a very short distance. According to Abazovic, the bridge will connect 34km of sandy beaches, which are visited by about 530,000 tourists a year.
“New information about the bridge in Bojana. The total length of the bridge will be 310 m and the range between the two supporting pillars will be 139 meters. The bridge will be 17 meters wide, there will be two traffic lanes of 3.75 m each, two sidewalks of 2 meters each and two bicycle lanes of 1.25 meters each. The bridge will connect 34 km of sandy beaches, which are visited by about 530,000 tourists a year. The current distance between Ulcinj and Velipoja is 73 km, while with the construction of the bridge it will be reduced to only 1 km. The planned date of completion of works is August 2024. We make people together! We are making the economy strong! “We are building Montenegro,” Avazovic wrote.
A bridge expected to be completed in 18 months will shorten the distance between Velipoja and Ulcinj. The project was presented on June 8th in Ohrid by Prime Minister Rama and his Montenegrin counterpart, Dritan Abazovic. The ambitious project will cost 9m euros.
The plan of Albania and Montenegro is to build a bridge over the Buna River together by 2024, which will connect Ulcinj – the southernmost municipality of Montenegro and the Velipoja resort in Albania. The construction of the bridge over Buna and the connection of two large tourist centers will be extremely important for Ulcinj and for the development of tourism.
In addition to the significant shortening of the road between the coasts of the two countries, the rapprochement of the tourist markets of Albania, Greece, Kosovo and beyond will also take place.
During the presentation of the joint project in Ohrid, Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic said that Montenegro has allocated three and a half million euros in this year’s budget for the construction of the bridge. He expects a Memorandum of Cooperation with Albania to be signed in early September, which would specify the obligations of both parties.
“The bridge is important, not only because of the reduction of the road that connects the two cities and the two countries, but also because this area has the potential as a tourist attraction,” Abazovic said.
The Albanian Prime Minister, Edi Rama, stressed the need to specify the budget for this investment and to reach an agreement in accordance with it. “We are for. “The project is also fantastic,” he said.
Rama also stressed that Albania is already building a road that connects Velipoja with the city of Shengjin in southern Albania.
