Much Better Adventures: Albania, One of the Top 5 Solo Adventure Destinations for 2025, Dubbed the “Maldives of Europe”

After an extraordinary surge in popularity as a summer destination on TikTok – with over 4.9 million posts about the country – Albania has captured global attention with its crystal-clear waters, warm climate, and untouched coastline.
This rise in visibility has earned the country the nickname “The Maldives of Europe” and placed it 5th among the best destinations in the world for solo adventure travel in 2025.
Beyond the stunning coastline, increasing attention is also being drawn to the impressive northern mountains, which offer another side of Albania – wild, pristine, and ideal for solo adventurers.
Much Better Adventures, a UK-based platform specializing in adventurous and sustainable travel, compiled the list of the best places for solo adventure travel in 2025. The rankings are based on customer feedback as well as safety ratings, biodiversity index, affordability, flight time, and ease of entry from the UK.
Although slightly less developed and polished than its neighbor Greece, Albania is an uncut gem for those seeking truly authentic culture, charming towns, and beautiful beaches – along with a safe and affordable adventure.
“The country can still become overcrowded during the summer months, so our expert’s advice is to avoid the peak season in Albania and travel during the shoulder seasons – we’re talking April-May and September-October. This way, you can enjoy all the country’s beauty to yourself – and help spread tourism income more sustainably throughout the year.”
“In summer, you only see the shiny, polished side of a beach resort,” says guide and expert Ricardo Fahrig. “But in the off-season, you see what really goes on – without the crowds.”
Adventure lovers have a whole world to explore across the country’s diverse landscapes, from hiking and wild swimming in the Albanian Alps – home to some of the highest peaks in the Balkans – to kayaking in the Adriatic Sea and cycling through epic terrain, from the shores of Lake Ohrid to rugged mountain passes.
