Muhammad Ali Pasha was the Ottoman Albanian, governor and de facto ruler of Egypt from 1805 to 1848, considered the founder of modern Egypt. Muhammad Ali Pasha was born into an Albanian family in Kavala during the rule of the Ottoman Empire in the Balkans, on March 4, 1769.

For 43 years he was the man who ruled Egypt, from 1805 to 1848. During his rule in Egypt as a special envoy from the Ottoman Empire, he extended his influence from Upper Egypt to parts of Arabia. The modernization that he brought about with his political influence in the military, economy and culture are still held today as some of the most brilliant movements in the realm of great leaders in history.

Later Ali Pasha would also rebel against the Ottoman Empire demanding the independence of Egypt and Western Asia, this brought a series of conflicts and battles between Ali Pasha and the Ottoman Empire, but with the intervention of the Europeans, mainly Russia, Ali Pasha took a step back by accepted a peace pact in 1840 reducing his army to no longer be a danger to Europe and the Ottoman Empire but enjoying full power in Egypt and Sudan for generations to come. Muhammad Ali Pasha died on August 2, 1849.
