The National Security Council is meeting at the Palace of Brigades following criminal proceedings against former State Intelligence Service director Vlora Hyseni. The proceedings concern allegations that she passed classified information to Ergys Agasi during his escape.

The council is expected to discuss national security and the protection of classified information. President Bajram Begaj chairs the council, which includes the heads of 13 institutions. Prime Minister Edi Rama will also attend.

Rama previously said Hyseni would face justice individually and described the measure against her as extreme. He also said a criminal investigation involving a State Intelligence Service chief has implications for national security and state interests. The prime minister said the council should discuss safeguards for security institutions and classified information when their leaders become subjects of criminal investigations.
