Nationwide Seminar, Manastirliu: Training and Education for Diaspora Teachers Part of 2026–2028 Plan

The Nationwide Seminar with Albanian Language and Culture Teachers in the Diaspora brought together more than 250 teachers this year from over 20 countries, marking the highest participation ever. This clearly shows growing interest and stronger institutional support for teaching Albanian abroad.

Minister of Education Ogerta Manastirliu praised the teachers’ essential role.

“This seminar is a living platform for you to promote, preserve, and pass on our beautiful Albanian language. We see the Diaspora teacher network growing and strengthening each year. This time, we have more teachers than last year. You are missionaries, working hard to carry our language to the children of the Diaspora,” said Manastirliu.

She also highlighted concrete steps taken this year to strengthen the role of Diaspora teachers.

“We will continue to support a program that is already showing success. We’ve launched a pilot in Greece, where 50 to 80 teachers now receive financial support to teach Albanian to children. We aim to expand this to other countries. Another major step is the unified textbooks, which we are reproducing in greater numbers every year. Now we can provide a consistent set of textbooks up to the 9th grade,” she noted.

Manastirliu stressed the focus will also remain on continuing education for Diaspora teachers.

The Nationwide Seminar has taken place annually since 2007, supported by both Albanian governments, helping to build a strong international teacher network dedicated to preserving the Albanian language and identity.
