NATO Commander for Europe: We are increasing the forces in Kosova

The Supreme Commander of the NATO Forces in Europe and the Commander of the European Command of the US Army, Christopher Cavoli said that NATO has decided to increase the reserve forces within the framework of KFOR in Kosova and EUFOR-Althea in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

He said in a hearing before the US Senate Armed Services Committee on April 11 that at least two focused missions have been launched to gather more information and better understanding of the events in Kosova and Bosnia and Herzegovina.

“After doing the full audit of KFOR, we came to the conclusion that we need not only more forces, but also stronger forces. This process is ongoing. We will bring more heavy equipment into the field, as well as more people,” he said.

On the other hand, Cavoli considered that ethnic tensions in Bosnia also have the potential to escalate and destabilize the Western Balkans region. He noted that Russia’s activities to incite tensions between ethnic Bosnians, Serbs and Croats are aimed at weakening the country and preventing deepening ties with the EU and NATO.
