TIRANA, February 3 – Nine years ago, on 3 February 2017, the renowned writer and poet Dritëro Agolli passed away at the age of 85.

His literary work includes a wide range of genres, such as poetry, poems, short stories, novellas, novels, dramas, and film scripts.

For many years, he led the League of Writers and Artists of Albania. He worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper “Zëri i Popullit” (People’s Voice) and served several terms as a member of parliament.

Dritëro Agolli was born on 13 October 1931, in Menkulas.

His most notable poetic work is “Nënë Shqipëri” (Mother Albania) (1975), which portrays the heroic traditions of the country. In the same spirit, he wrote the novel “Komisari Memo” (The Bronze Bust) (1969), as well as a series of poems and poetic works reflecting the heroic spirit of the National Liberation War period.

Among his satirical works, the novel “Shkëlqimi dhe rënia e shokut Zylo” (The Rise and Fall of Comrade Zylo) (1973) stands out for its undeniable literary contribution.

In addition to these achievements, he also worked as a songwriter. Notable titles include “Kush më njeh mua” (Who Knows Me) presented at the 11th Song Festival at Albanian Radio and Television, and “Kur të jesh mërzitur shumë” (When You Are Very Sad).
