North Macedonia Albanian Deputy Prime Minister Arben Fetai resigns from government post

TIRANA, June 2 – Arben Fetai, an Albanian political figure in North Macedonia’s government, resigned from his post as Deputy Prime Minister for Good Governance. He confirmed the decision in a social media post and said he submitted his resignation to Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski.

Fetai said he served in office for two years and contributed to reforms on accountability, transparency and the rule of law. He said he was not fully satisfied with the results achieved and added that he worked with full commitment. He also said current circumstances no longer allow him to perform the role effectively.

Prime Minister Hristijan Mickoski confirmed the resignation. He said the government will appoint a successor after consultations with coalition partners. He added that a government reshuffle will take place within the month.

Meanwhile, the Albanian coalition in North Macedonia, VLEN, part of the governing alliance with VMRO-DPMNE, praised Fetai’s contribution. Local media reported that Fetai had not attended government meetings for several months.
