North Macedonia: Albanian Students Protest to Defend Use of Albanian in Exams

Albanian students are protesting this afternoon in Skopje to defend the use of the Albanian language in professional exams.

Hundreds of students and citizens gathered near the Stone Bridge. They are demanding that the bar exam be organized in Albanian as well.

The protest is being held under the slogan “Join the students, all with one voice.” Moreover, participants are marching with banners and chants supporting language rights and civic equality.

Organizers stressed that the protest is not directed against anyone. Instead, they said it aims to protect the Albanian language, dignity, and equal rights for Albanians as citizens in North Macedonia.

In addition, students called on athletes, artists, and public figures to join the demonstration and support their cause.

“We invite everyone to protest together at 16:30, starting from the Stone Bridge in Skopje. Stand with the students, stand with Albanians,” the student statement said.

Finally, the students urged institutions to guarantee the right to take professional exams in Albanian, describing it as a fundamental constitutional right.
