O’Brien: Establishing the Association, a Crucial Step

U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Europe and Eurasia, James O’Brien, stated in an interview with Serbian public broadcaster RTS that he expects all agreements reached in the dialogue to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia to be honored.

In the interview, O’Brien emphasized the importance of adhering to agreements concerning the establishment of the Association of Serb-majority municipalities. He mentioned that a draft statute for the Association must be approved by the Constitutional Court of Kosovo.

The senior U.S. official also highlighted the need for broader discussions regarding the integration of Serbs living in Kosovo.

“The Association is a significant step. It’s crucial to make progress even before its formation. People should be able to live normally, register marriages, and ensure that children are born, and we need to work on all these aspects simultaneously. The obligations have been in place since 2015, when the agreement for the Association was signed. While I cannot provide a specific timeline, what matters most is that Serbs live as European citizens,” said O’Brien.
