Socialist Party MP Olta Xhaçka was unanimously elected today as vice-president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe. On social media, Xhaçka said the role is more than a new duty. She called it a strong message that Albania has voice, weight, and vision.

She emphasized her responsibilities: to strengthen Albania’s voice in defending democracy, the rule of law, and human rights.

Xhaçka pledged to support Kosovo on its path to membership. She vowed to stand with Ukraine in its pursuit of justice and peace. She also said she will promote reforms that make Albania a reliable partner.

The Parliamentary Assembly is one of two main statutory bodies of the Council of Europe. It reflects the main political trends of its member states and acts as a dynamic force in expanding European cooperation among democratic nations.

Founded as the first European assembly in history, the Parliamentary Assembly now includes delegations from 46 national parliaments, making it the European assembly with the broadest base.
