Opening of Albanian Language Department at Slav University of Baku Targeted for 2026

The President of the Academy of Sciences, Acad. Skënder Gjinushi, met with Prof. Anar Naghiyev, Rector of the Slavic University of Baku (Azerbaijan), who was accompanied by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Albania, Anar Huseynov, and other delegation members.
The Academy of Sciences attendees included Acad. Anila Hoda, Acad. Assoc. Gëzim Hoxha, Acad. Valter Memisha, and others. Gjinushi introduced them to the Academy’s vision, structure, and recent research developments, particularly in Albanology.
Rector Naghiyev expressed appreciation for the meeting and emphasized the importance of developing relations between Albania and Azerbaijan, especially in higher education. He highlighted the Slavic University of Baku’s plans to offer Albanian language studies in 2026 and discussed collaboration for establishing an Albanian language department.
Ambassador Huseynov reiterated Azerbaijan’s focus on strengthening cultural and academic cooperation. He also suggested the possibility of connecting the Academy of Sciences of Albania with the Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan.
The meeting concluded with both sides committing to long-term cooperation, particularly in Albanian language studies, academic exchanges, and the signing of a cooperation agreement. Gjinushi welcomed the opportunity to visit Baku and expressed the Academy’s commitment to supporting international collaboration.
