President Vjosa Osmani offered condolences to the Bukoshi family. Former Prime Minister-in-exile Bujar Bukoshi passed away.

Osmani called Bukoshi “a visionary doctor and a devoted statesman.”

She wrote on Facebook: “Dr. Bukoshi will always be remembered. He supported the cause of a free and independent Kosovo. He stood firm during our hardest times. He served as a doctor, intellectual, and political leader. His work shaped our path to freedom.”

Former President Atifete Jahjaga also expressed condolences. She said, “His commitment to freedom and statehood is part of our national history.”

Bukoshi died at age 78 after a serious illness.

He was born in 1947 in Suhareka. He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine in Belgrade. He worked as a doctor in Suhareka.

He co-founded the Democratic League of Kosovo. In 1989, he founded the Council for the Defense of Human Rights and Freedoms.

From 1991 to 2000, he led the Provisional Government of Kosovo in exile.

In 2007, he became a member of Kosovo’s Assembly. He signed the Declaration of Independence.

From 2011 to 2014, he served as Deputy Prime Minister in the Thaçi government.
