Over 20 years after the war in Kosovo, more than 1,600 people are missing

More than 1,600 people who disappeared during the war in Kosovo have not yet been found after more than 20 years since its end.
In a media release, the International Committee of the Red Cross has announced that the ICRC will continue to stand by them during these difficult times.
On the occasion of the National Day of Missing Persons, the head of the mission of the ICRC in Kosovo, Agim Gashi, said that “the wounds of the families of the missing persons remain unhealed. Day after day, families continue to live in anxiety and uncertainty, without knowing what happened to their spouses, children or relatives”.
“We have not spared any effort to ease their suffering and we will continue to support all efforts to clarify the location of the missing persons. “Families will find comfort only after they know what happened to their loved ones,” Gashi emphasized.
Gashi explained that “it is our obligation to support all the initiatives aimed at clarifying the fate of all persons who remain missing in Kosovo, without distinction”.
Referring to international humanitarian law, former parties to the conflict are obliged to provide information on the fate and location of persons who have disappeared in the territories that were under their control.
