On Sunday evening, the first cases with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus were confirmed in Kosovo. In announcing the first cases with Omicron, the MoH called for compliance with the measures in force.
In addition to respecting the anti-Covid measures in force, the MoH asked citizens to be vaccinated and to encourage others to be vaccinated.
However, it is not yet known if there will be stricter measures, after confirmation of the first cases with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus.
The Minister of Health, Rifat Latifi, last week in an interview stated that anti-COVID measures will be imposed regarding the epidemiological situation in the country.
He has warned of austerity measures if needed. The Ministry of Health has announced that two cases were imported from the USA, two from London, one case from France and four cases with the Omicron variant were detected in the municipality of Mitrovica, and the same denied that they traveled or had contacts with someone from outside.
NIPHK stated that the Omicron variant is predicted to aggravate the epidemiological situation, as it has a faster spread than the Delta Plus variant of the coronavirus.
“After the introduction of the Omicron variant (B.1.1.529) in the world, Europe, the region and now in Kosovo, it is predicted that the epidemiological situation will worsen. “This variant, based on data from the world so far, has an even faster spread than the Delta Plus variant”, reads the announcement.
The Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo have called for the implementation of effective measures and vaccination.
“The Ministry of Health and the National Institute of Public Health of Kosovo call on citizens to strictly implement the measures in force and to be vaccinated and to encourage others to be vaccinated. Kosovo has vaccines approved for use by the world’s most relevant bodies. “Vaccination can be done at any time, without an appointment, regardless of the place of residence and citizenship”, is said in the announcement of NIPHK.
