Life and Artistic Path

Milkani was born on December 9, 1939, in Korça, a city known for its cultural tradition. He discovered cinema early in life and decided to study cinematography in Prague. He graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts with the film “Nenavist” (Ingratitude).

He returned to Albania and began his career at Kinostudio “New Albania.” As a cinematographer and later as a director, he created more than 20 feature films, documentaries, and short films. His style stood out for its careful realism, human depth, and sharp reflection on Albanian life.

He also co-directed “The General of the Dead Army” with Luciano Tovoli. The film, based on Ismail Kadare’s novel, was produced by Italian cinema in 1983. It starred Marcello Mastroianni.

Milkani received many national and international awards. He held the title “People’s Artist” and was honored with the medal “Ambassador of Albanian Film.”
