PM Rama attends EU-Western Balkans Summit to be held today in Brussles

The leaders of the European Union and the Western Balkans meet this Wednesday (December 13) in Brussels, one year after the summit in Tirana.

Prime Minister Edi Rama will also participate in today’s meeting. During the summit, the leaders will discuss the strategic partnership between the EU and the Western Balkans region, ensuring ever closer ties and more integrated cooperation based on shared principles and values.

The summit is an opportunity to reaffirm the EU membership perspective of the Western Balkans, as well as the need for sustainable and irreversible achievements of the partners’ reforms, supported by the values and principles of the EU.

The main topics of discussion in this summit will be: Deepening political engagement with the Western Balkans; The rapprochement of the partners of the Western Balkans with the EU and the advancement of gradual integration. Building economic foundations for the future and mitigating the impact of Russia’s war of aggression against Ukraine; Strengthening security and building resilience.

The last summit between the leaders of the EU and the Western Balkans took place in Tirana in December 2022 and was the first summit held in the Western Balkans region.
