PM Rama calls for talks on magistrates’ salaries and long-term solution

Prime Minister Edi Rama called for institutional dialogue over the law on magistrates’ salaries. He urged judicial representatives to join a joint working meeting and seek a long-term solution.

Rama said the meeting should include the heads of the two justice system councils and leaders of judicial institutions. He said the talks should address the magistrates’ salary system and maintain a sustainable balance across the state salary structure.

Meanwhile, Rama said Council of Europe experts could join the meeting proposed by the government. He also called for input from the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice.

Rama also linked magistrates’ independence and salary levels to decisions by the governing majority. He said magistrates had gained a high level of independence and some of the highest salaries in Albania and the region through the majority’s decisions. He stressed that the government sought institutional cooperation with the judiciary rather than conflict.

In conclusion, Rama said institutions should address disagreements through dialogue and an institutional approach.
