With his literary work, the diversity of genres, and the universe of themes, Kadare is the pride of national culture and the most worthy representative of Albanian literature in the second half of the 20th century.
With his departure from this world, culture and literature have lost an extraordinary original voice, the nation has lost a staunch defender of national identity, family and loved ones have lost a dear person, friends and colleagues have lost their irreplaceable friend.

“In human history, writers have often steered nations through their most difficult moments, articulating the idea of freedom.
Ismail Kadare was the Albanian genius, the man and writer who dedicated his entire life and work to his love for the land, blood, and country of the Albanians, creating an unparalleled legacy of admiration and glory for his homeland and his nation.
With this love, which he expressed through all his works, he presented the values of his people to the world, elevating Albanian language, culture, and literature, as well as the Albanian people themselves, while defending the right of the Albanian people in Kosovo to live free and independent throughout the world, in intellectual and cultural circles, in political arenas, and in his exchanges with distinguished personalities worldwide.
The people of Kosovo, like all Albanian people, are in mourning today. They have lost the towering figure of the most renowned Albanian scholar, the unwavering advocate for the rights of the Albanian people in Kosovo to live free and independent, and the relentless promoter of this right worldwide. They have lost the unparalleled writer, to whom as President, I had the honor to grant Kosovo citizenship some time ago, as well as the “Hasan Prishtina” Order.
For decades, he artistically and intellectually cultivated the feeling of freedom, helping us, the Albanians of Kosovo, to better understand the extent of freedom and to perpetually cherish it.
His passing marks our physical separation from him, but he will remain forever in the hearts and souls of millions of readers and admirers of his work, in the hearts and spirit of every Albanian, the nation to which he served until his last breath,” Osmani wrote in her reaction.
