Pope Leo XIV appoints new Apostolic Nuncio to Albania

The Albanian Bishops’ Conference announced that His Holiness Pope Leo XIV today appointed a new Apostolic Nuncio to Albania.

The new nuncio is Archbishop Mirosław Adamczyk, titular archbishop of Otriculum. He previously served as Apostolic Nuncio to Argentina. Adamczyk was born on July 16, 1962, in Gdańsk, Poland. He is 63 years old.

After the announcement of his appointment to Albania, dioceses across the country sent messages of congratulations and welcome.

The Apostolic Nuncio is the Holy See’s highest-ranking diplomat in a country. He represents the Pope and holds a role comparable to that of an ambassador. He manages relations with the government and the local Church. The nuncio usually serves as a titular archbishop and heads the apostolic nunciature, the Vatican’s diplomatic mission.

As a link between the Pope and the local Catholic hierarchy, he also handles episcopal appointments. The Apostolic Nuncio enjoys full diplomatic status under international law. He carries out both diplomatic and pastoral duties within the Church.
