President Bajram Begaj convened the National Security Council to discuss current issues and their impact on security institutions. The meeting also included representatives of the General Prosecution Office and the Special Prosecution Office, alongside the council’s legal members, the Presidency said.

The council discussed measures to strengthen cooperation among institutions and with international partners and allies. It also focused on public trust. Begaj said security institutions have different responsibilities but serve the same national interest. He called for cooperation, coordination and professional communication instead of institutional distrust.

Meanwhile, the council stressed that justice investigations should remain fully independent and receive respect from all institutions. It said individual cases should not become a crisis of trust in the state or its security institutions. The council also called for stronger standards, oversight, transparency, accountability and institutional cooperation. It stressed that Albania’s institutions should work together to strengthen national security and public confidence.

The National Security Council serves as an advisory body to the president. It does not make decisions. Its meetings take place behind closed doors.
