President of the Republic Bajram Begaj has officially decreed the dismissal of Vlora Hyseni as Director of the State Intelligence Service. The decree cites Article 93 of the Constitution and Law No. 8391 “On the State Intelligence Service”. Prime Minister Edi Rama proposed the dismissal. The decision follows measures that the Special Court imposed on Hyseni at the request of the Special Prosecutor’s Office. The measures include house arrest and suspension from duty.

Earlier, in a statement from New York, where he is attending the United Nations General Assembly, Prime Minister Edi Rama said the director’s dismissal would take immediate effect. He said an independent judicial process should clarify any doubts raised by the prosecution authorities.

Rama said everyone remains presumed innocent until a final court ruling. He added that no one stands above the law in any case or for any reason. After returning to Tirana, he said he would consult with the President of the Republic on the appointment of a new State Intelligence Service director.
