Rama Praises Christopher Hill as Most Insightful U.S. Ambassador for the Balkans

Prime Minister Edi Rama honored U.S. diplomat Christopher Hill during the presentation of Hill’s book, “Serving Far from Home.” Rama called Hill “the most insightful American ambassador for the Balkans” and praised his skill in truly listening to local voices.
Rama highlighted Hill’s unique approach. He said Hill understands the Balkans from within, not from a distance. “He has experienced every corner of the region and never sought the spotlight,” Rama noted.
The Prime Minister recalled his first impression of Hill when learning that Hill had sent Fatos Nano to prison. Despite this, Rama emphasized Hill’s subtle, whispering diplomacy. “He listens—something rare among U.S. ambassadors,” Rama said.
Rama added that the Balkans still produce more history than it can consume. He stressed that Hill’s work left a lasting mark on every country he served in, shaping diplomacy with care and discretion.
