The rapporteur for Albania in the EP, Isabel Santos, MEP, addressed the European Parliament today. She stressed once again that Albania has met the conditions and a date should be set as soon as possible for the first intergovernmental conference.

” In the report of the commission for the years 2019-2020, the recommendation for the opening of the first intergovernmental conference has become clear. We all know this point, that it is necessary to proceed to hold the first conference. We have now reached almost the middle of 2022 and Albania continues to wait.

Albania has continued to move ahead on the path to European integration. The first conference is to be held by the end of the council’s French presidency. It is clear that Albania and North Macedonia have a long way to go in the reform process. But the conditions for holding the first conference have been respected and the process for Albania should not be the subject of parallel discussions, it should move forward.
