The National Theater of Opera and Ballet commemorates the 90th anniversary of the birth of Gaqo Çako (January 24, 1935 – August 1, 2018), the esteemed tenor and recipient of the title “Honor of the Nation.”

Çako made a remarkable contribution to the history of Albanian opera, performing leading roles in both classical and Albanian operas for three decades. His performances elevated Albanian opera to international standards, with notable works including La Traviata, La Bohème, Norma, and Skënderbeu.

In addition to his operatic career, Çako was an ambassador for Albanian vocal culture, performing in numerous countries across Europe, Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Cuba. As a professor at the Academy of Arts, he mentored many successful students who have contributed significantly to the music world.
