Five years ago, the iconic singer Nexhmije Pagarusha, renowned as the “Nightingale of Kosovo,” passed away.

Born in May 1933 in Malishevë, Pagarusha embarked on her musical journey in 1948 with Radio Prishtina. She concluded her illustrious career as a singer in 1984.

Her distinctive voice, coupled with her extraordinary talent, established her as an irreplaceable figure in Albanian music.

Beyond her singing career, she was also a respected actress in both film and theater. For her significant contributions to the arts, Pagarusha was honored with the title “Honor of the Nation” by the Presidency of Albania, while the Presidency of Kosovo awarded her the distinction of “Merited Artist.”

Nexhmije Pagarusha passed away at the age of 86, leaving behind a remarkable legacy of five albums and 88 songs, with her most beloved works including “Baresha” and “Zambaku i Prizrenit.”

Her legacy will endure as an exemplary figure for future generations of artists and as an immortal star in the realm of Albanian music.
