Rexhepi meets OSCE ambassador on ethnic Albanian community challenges in Presheva Valley, south Serbia

TIRANA, December 12 – Enkel Rexhepi, head of the National Albanian Council (KKSH), met today with the new OSCE ambassador, Marcel Pesko. He presented the challenges facing the Albanian community in the Presheva Valley in south Serbia.
Rexhepi said the situation affected institutional representation, security, and fundamental rights. He added that it was not a technical issue.
He reported that authorities blocked €304,511.16 allocated to KKSH three times without explanation. He said 35,448 textbooks had already reached students. He noted that 3,650 students used them daily.
Rexhepi discussed blocked agricultural subsidies. He highlighted the lack of Albanian representation in the police. He stressed the need for a multiethnic police force to ensure security.
He identified two daily challenges for Albanians. First, the deactivation of addresses reduced the Albanian population. Second, the non-recognition of diplomas prevented young people from working in their professions.
Rexhepi called for urgent action on both issues. He urged authorities to implement the seven-point plan and the operational plan for Albanian employment in local institutions. He said these plans were key to securing Albanian rights.
He concluded that cooperation between KKSH and OSCE remained essential to address current challenges.
