“Road to the EU” Summit: €54 million grant approved for safe and sustainable transport in the Western Balkans

TIRANA, November 21 – Officials at the “Road to the EU” Summit in Tirana announced the approval of a €54 million grant. The funds will support the safe and sustainable transport programme, managed by the World Bank.
The programme aims to improve road and rail safety. It will also digitalize processes, promote green practices, and facilitate trade through border crossings.
A World Bank representative said the project involved close coordination among beneficiary countries. She described the grant as a unique investment package. She added that it aims to bring the Western Balkans closer to the European Union.
She emphasized that the grant strengthens cooperation, enhances transport safety, and supports sustainable practices. She noted that it will simplify trade procedures at regional borders and foster integration with EU standards.
