Rohde: Sanctions Against Kosova Should Be Lifted, Some EU States Remain Skeptical

TIRANA – Outgoing German Ambassador to Kosovo, Jorn Rohde, said the sanctions imposed on Kosova should be lifted. He added that the lack of criminal proceedings against Milan Radojcic may be one reason why Kosova-Serbia talks have stalled.

Rohde made the remarks on the program ‘Rubikon’ on Klan Kosova, emphasizing that the sanctions targeted the wrong people. “Germany’s position remains clear: the sanctions should be removed,” he said. “They should have been lifted last year. However, some European Union countries remain skeptical, and a few measures still affect institutions”.

The ambassador stressed that enforcement of the rule of law is essential. “We call for criminal proceedings against Milan Radojcic. Their absence may explain why talks with Serbia do not advance,” he noted.

Rohde also clarified that sanctions aim to address concerning actions. “We impose sanctions when actions raise concerns. This does not mean Germany is not a close partner to Kosova. We are, and we will continue to be,” he added.
