Romanian Ambassador: Corridor VIII key for Balkan security and military mobility

TIRANA, February 18 – Romania’s Ambassador to Albania, Octavian Serban, said Corridor VIII is a strategic asset for regional security and military mobility during the ministerial meeting in Tirana. He stressed that rapid, coordinated response is essential for collective security.
Serban noted Romania participates in all military mobility projects along Corridor VIII. He said agreements are in place to harmonize troop movements with allies, including Greece, Bulgaria, and Turkey. The corridor will connect the Adriatic to the Black Sea and strengthen regional military transit.
He highlighted current obstacles, such as differing national regulations and fragmented procedures, which delay military transport and expose the region to potential risks. Serban called for infrastructure improvements and streamlined rules to ensure effective troop mobility during crises.
He emphasized that military readiness depends on connected infrastructure. Limiting mobility can endanger allied forces. Serban concluded that easing regulations and enhancing military mobility is urgent to fully realize Corridor VIII’s strategic potential.
