The Director General of Albanian Radio Television (RTSH), Eni Vasili, said at the National Conference on gender equality in media that RTSH, as a public broadcaster, works daily to find direct solutions. She emphasized that gender equality at RTSH and in Albanian media is a daily struggle.

Vasili added that women remain underrepresented in the Albanian media as experts, panelists, and media leaders. She noted, however, that there have been small improvements recently.

“The media still presents an unrealistic picture. It reinforces the idea that only men hold authority on public, economic, and political issues. This is especially clear in evening panels, where most commentators are men. Women are rarely trusted with political analysis. This happens not because moderators dislike women, but from my 20 years in media and running a prime-time program, I have observed this pattern,” Vasili said.

She further pointed out that decisions about women appearing in the media are centralized. As a result, women’s voices often remain silent in decision-making and shaping public opinion.

“Media appearances are mostly controlled centrally. You cannot always go directly to women, nor are they always free to come forward. This keeps their voices silent in decision-making and in influencing public opinion. As a public broadcaster, RTSH acknowledges this problem and works every day to overcome it and find direct solutions. I remain a journalist by profession. Gender equality at RTSH and in Albanian media is a daily struggle. It remains so worldwide,” Vasili concluded.
