Rutte and Bettel visit Kosovo

The Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, and the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel, will visit Kosovo next week.

The visit of Rutte and Bettel will take place on July 3-4.

According to the Dutch newspaper “Haarlems Dagblad”, the visit of the two European prime ministers is related to the recent tensions in the north of Kosovo, according to KosovaPress.

“On July 3-4, Prime Minister Rutte will visit Serbia and Kosovo, together with the Prime Minister of Luxembourg, Xavier Bettel. This visit offers an opportunity to discuss the increased tension between Serbia and Kosovo and the importance for de-escalation and the commitment to the dialogue led by the EU for the normalization of relations”, announcement of the Dutch government reads.

In addition to Kosovo, the European prime ministers will also visit Serbia.

The tensions in the north of Kosovo started on May 26, when the elected mayors in Zubin Potok, Zveçan and Leposaviq went to the municipal facilities, assisted by the Kosovo Police.

The situation escalated on May 29, when criminal groups attacked the Kosovo Police and KFOR soldiers, where about 30 of them were injured.

The international community has addressed three requests to Prime Minister Kurti, related to the situation in the north, the escalation of the situation, the holding of new elections and the return to the dialogue for the normalization of Kosovo-Serbia relations, mediated by the European Union.
